12 Months Before — Start Here
Set your budget: Decide on a total number and how it splits between venue, travel, and extras. Use our cost guide for realistic Fiji numbers.
Choose your region: Mamanuca Islands, Coral Coast, Denarau, or Outer Islands. Each has a different feel and price range.
Shortlist venues: Browse our venue directory and use the compare tool to narrow it down to 3-5 options.
Contact venues: Send enquiries through our site. Ask about availability for your preferred dates and request detailed package information.
Book your venue: Popular dates (June-October) book up 12+ months ahead. Secure your date with a deposit.
9-10 Months Before
Book flights: For the best fares, book 6+ months ahead. Check Fiji Airways, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia for direct flights.
Choose your wedding package: Work with the venue coordinator to select or customise a package. Confirm exactly what's included.
Send save-the-dates: Give guests plenty of notice — they need to plan international travel.
Start the legal process: Fiji requires a marriage license. You'll need to apply through the Fiji Registrar General's office. Your venue coordinator will guide you through this.
Book accommodation: For yourself and your guests. Ask the venue about group rates or room blocks.
6-8 Months Before
Book photographer: If you're not using the resort's photographer, book an independent one now. Look for someone experienced with Fiji weddings.
Plan your outfits: Keep Fiji's tropical climate in mind — lightweight fabrics, no heavy suits. A linen suit and a flowing dress work perfectly.
Send formal invitations: Include travel details, accommodation options, and a wedding website link if you have one.
Arrange any extras: Live music, videographer, hair and makeup artist, extra decorations. The venue coordinator can recommend local suppliers.
Check passport validity: All guests need passports valid for 6+ months beyond travel dates. Fiji grants visa-free entry for most countries (30 days for Australians and New Zealanders).
3-5 Months Before
Finalise guest count: Give the venue your confirmed numbers. This affects catering, seating, and sometimes the package price.
Confirm all bookings: Double-check venue, flights, accommodation, photographer, and any extras.
Plan the rehearsal: Some venues offer a rehearsal dinner or welcome party the night before. It's a great way to bring everyone together after their travels.
Arrange transfers: Book airport-to-resort transfers for yourself and guests. Island resorts will coordinate boat or seaplane transfers.
Travel insurance: Get comprehensive cover that includes wedding cancellation and medical evacuation. Fiji is remote — don't skip this.
1-2 Months Before
Submit legal documents: Send certified copies of birth certificates, passport copies, and any required affidavits to the venue coordinator. If either party was previously married, you'll need the original divorce decree or death certificate.
Final venue walkthrough: If you're doing a site visit before the wedding, now is the time. Otherwise, do a video call with your coordinator.
Create a day-of timeline: Work with your coordinator on the ceremony time, photo session, dinner, and any entertainment.
Pack smart: Think light, breathable clothes. Don't forget sunscreen, insect repellent, and your marriage documents in your carry-on.
Wedding Week
Arrive 2-3 days early: Give yourself time to adjust, relax, and handle any last-minute details. Fiji is on "Fiji time" — embrace it.
Marriage license appointment: You must appear in person at the Registrar's office (or the venue coordinator handles this on-island). This must happen at least 1 day before the ceremony.
Rehearsal: Walk through the ceremony with your celebrant. Confirm timing, positions, and music.
Relax: You're in Fiji. Get a couples spa treatment, go snorkelling, enjoy the sunset. The hard work of planning is done.
Legal Requirements Summary
Residency: Must be in Fiji for at least 1 day before the ceremony.
Documents needed: Valid passport, birth certificate, completed marriage application form (Form M1), statutory declaration. If previously married: original divorce decree absolute or death certificate.
Marriage license fee: Approximately FJD $25.
Celebrant: Can be a civil registrar, Christian minister, or Hindu priest. Your venue usually arranges this.
Registration: After the ceremony, the marriage is registered with the Fiji Registrar General. You'll receive your marriage certificate within 2-4 weeks (or expedited for extra fee).
Recognition: Fiji marriages are legally recognised in Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, and most other countries.
